Roof Terrace Waterproofing in Tavira: Stop Leaks Before Winter
Damp patches on a top floor ceiling usually start on the terrace above. We find the leak, seal it and repaint the affected walls, with a written quote, full insurance and a photo report, ideally before the winter rain arrives.
- Leak source found before work starts
- Liquid-applied waterproof membranes
- Joints and drains checked and sealed
- Photo report & invoice with NIF
Why terraces in the Algarve leak, and how we find the real cause
Joint failure. The most common cause in Tavira and Cabanas: expansion joints, parapet capping and the seam where terrace meets wall. These open and close with temperature and let water in before you see a single crack.
Failed waterproof membrane. Liquid-applied or sheet membranes degrade in the sun. After 10 years, most are brittle and cracked. We remove the old coating, re-prime, and apply a new liquid membrane that flexes with the building.
Blocked or broken drains. A blocked drain holds water on the terrace. That water finds the weakest point and pushes through. We clear drains, inspect the pipework, and seal the area around each drain.
Salt action. Even on terraces, salt from the air gets into the render and weakens the seal. We treat the surface before applying any new waterproofing.
We diagnose the exact source before we start. Most of the time, it’s one of these four. We fix it, test it with water, and then repaint any affected ceilings and walls below.
Our terrace waterproofing process
1
Survey & Leak Detection
We inspect the terrace, check joints, drains, and the membrane. We test with water to find the exact entry point. You get a written quote before any work starts.
2
Surface Prep & Repair
We clean the surface, repair cracks and joints, treat any salt or mould, and prime the area. We also clear drains and check the fall of the terrace.
3
Waterproof Membrane
We apply a liquid-applied, flexible waterproof membrane, reinforced at joints and around drains. Two coats give a continuous, durable seal.
4
Repaint Ceilings & Finish
We water-test the terrace, then repaint any stained ceilings or walls below. You receive a full photo report and the invoice.

Questions about terrace waterproofing in Tavira
The most common signs are: a damp patch on the ceiling below, peeling paint or wallpaper near the top of a wall, a musty smell in the room underneath, or visible cracks or puddles on the terrace surface. If you see any of these, book a survey before the winter rain arrives.
A terrace leak is water coming through the structure: a defined wet patch that grows after rain. Condensation is moisture in the air settling on cold surfaces, so it shows as general dampness and black mould on walls, and often clears with ventilation. Our survey tells the two apart.
Liquid-applied, flexible waterproof membranes, either acrylic or polyurethane depending on the surface and exposure. They form a continuous elastic skin that bonds well to concrete, render and tile. They are the standard for terraces in the Algarve and last 10 to 15 years when applied correctly.
A typical terrace (20 to 30m²) takes 2 to 3 days: day one for prep and repairs, day two for the first membrane coat, day three for the second coat and the water test. Larger terraces or complex repairs may take 4 to 5 days. You get a timeline before we start.
Yes, for 12 months on workmanship. If the same leak comes back within that year, we return and repair it free of charge. The guarantee covers the membrane and our repairs, as long as nobody has drilled, tiled or otherwise altered the terrace since.
