Why interior painting in the Algarve needs more than a roller
Condensation. A house shut from October to Easter holds damp air, and by spring it shows as grey mould on north walls and behind wardrobes. Painting over it buys you a month. We kill the mould with a fungicidal wash, use a paint that lets the wall breathe, and tell you which windows and vents to leave open next winter.
Holiday let wear. Guests come and go. Walls get scuffed, furniture is moved, and kitchens take a beating. We use scrubbable finishes, so a mark comes off with a damp cloth between bookings instead of needing a fresh coat every season.
Old walls, new standards. Many Tavira townhouses and apartments have lime plaster, uneven surfaces and layers of old paint. We prep properly: fill, sand, prime, and use flexible fillers that move with the building, so cracks don’t reappear in six months.

Most interior jobs get a fixed written price before the first dust sheet goes down. Small touch-ups can also be done by the hour, at a rate agreed in advance. Paint is billed at shop price.

These are average labour prices, VAT excluded. Paint is charged at what we paid, with the receipt. We confirm the exact price at the property, and the travel for that visit is included if the job goes ahead. On hourly work, a daily travel charge applies if the property is far from Tavira centre.

Interior work is priced in blocks, and these are averages. One room up to 20m² is around 190 €, two painters for up to four hours 390 €, and two painters for a full eight hour day 690 €, which usually covers a 3-bed villa interior. Paint is extra at shop price and VAT is added. The exact price comes after a visit, with the travel included if you go ahead.
Yes, it is a big part of our work. We plan around guest calendars, usually between bookings or in the low season, and use scrub-proof paint that lasts several seasons. If a guest marks a wall, we can come back for a touch up.
We treat it properly: a fungicidal wash to kill the mould, a stain-blocking primer, then vapour-permeable, anti-mould paint. If the mould comes from an underlying damp problem such as rising damp or a leak, we flag it and can treat the cause first. We never just paint over it.
Interior paint is usually touch-dry within 2 to 4 hours, and you can move furniture back after 24 hours. Full curing (hardness and washability) takes about 7 days. We advise on ventilation and temperature to help it cure faster, especially in winter.
