Why painting in Tavira is different (and why we know it)
The eastern Algarve is beautiful, but it destroys paint in three specific ways. Most painters from outside miss them. We don’t.
Salt air. It drifts in from the Ria Formosa and the Atlantic, landing on facades and metalwork. Standard paint blisters in a year. We use anti-salt primers and elasticised topcoats that breathe, so moisture doesn’t get trapped behind the film.
UV intensity. 300+ days of sun. South-facing walls fade in two seasons. We recommend mineral-based or high-resin paints that hold their colour, and we always apply a sacrificial clear coat to woodwork.
Winter damp. Houses closed from October to April grow mould behind wardrobes and on north walls. That isn’t a leak, it’s condensation. We fix it with fungicidal washes, vapour-permeable paints, and a simple ventilation plan that keeps the walls dry.
We’ve painted everything in Tavira: old townhouses, beachfront apartments in Cabanas, quintas in Luz de Tavira, and holiday lets in Santa Luzia. We know which primer works on lime render and which filler holds in salt-damaged brick.

These are average labour prices. Paint is billed at what we paid for it, receipt attached, and VAT is added on top. Every job is quoted after a visit to the property. Accept the quote and the travel for that visit is already part of the price. We also take work by the hour; in that case a daily travel charge applies if the property is far from Tavira centre.

Questions people ask before hiring a painter
Average prices as of November 2026. We charge by the job, not by the square metre: around 190 € for one room up to 20m², 390 € for two painters for half a day (up to 4 hours) and 690 € for two painters for a full 8 hour day. Paint goes on the invoice at the price we paid, with the shop receipt, and VAT is added on top. Your exact price comes after a visit to the property. The travel for that visit is charged, and included in the price if you go ahead.
For small repairs or a list of odd jobs, we can also work by the hour, at an hourly rate agreed before we start. On hourly work, a daily travel charge is added when the property is far from Tavira centre.
Yes, that’s one of our specialities. We cut out the damaged plaster, apply a salt-neutralising treatment, let it cure, and then use a vapour-permeable, anti-salt primer. This stops the damp from coming back through the new paint. We never paint over active salt bloom without treating it first.
Absolutely. Most of our clients are owners abroad. You send photos and a brief by email or WhatsApp, we visit with the key from your manager or neighbour to measure, and once you approve the written price we get to work. You receive the before and after photos and the invoice on the same day. If we find an issue, we stop and message you before continuing.
A standard 3-bed villa (interior) usually takes two painters one full day (8 hours). An exterior facade takes 1 to 2 days depending on preparation needed and weather. A full interior + exterior paint can take 2 to 3 days. We always give you a realistic timeline in the written quote.
We can do either. If you buy it, we apply it. If we buy it, we source it locally from suppliers in Tavira or Olhao, attach the receipt, and charge exactly what we paid. For large jobs we agree on the handling fee in the quote so there are no surprises.
